wouldn't it be loverly?

this weekend, dr. wilson invited pat and i as his guests to the cumberland county playhouse in crossville. the playhouse draws a quaint crowd from tennessee and surrounding states, and actors and actresses both acclaimed and inspiring alike. the featured show is "my fair lady," a movie my mother and i both loved growing up. i've never seen it on the stage, but i can safely say i was mesmerized. the ambiance of the barn-like, shabby-chic surroundings of the playhouse, coupled with the brilliant singing and dance, left me in an invigorated stupor that i have not felt since on broadway.
for a couple hours, i was not in tennessee. i was with eliza doolittle. my beloved, favorite character that challenged thinkers of her time, making us question, what is a lady? am i a lady? is it the way you look? how you dress? the way you speak? "the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain." "a. e. i. o. u." must these be spoken with english elegance for a woman to be treated as a lady? does a lady make a lady or the way one treats a lady make a lady...a lady? and wouldn't it be lovely, loverly, to be loved just as you are? oh, eliza, i think you're fabulous; even as a flower girl.
The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated.

memorial day.

"The blessings we enjoy as Americans came at a dear cost," Obama told a crowd at the cemetery's Memorial Amphitheater. "To those of you who mourn the loss of a loved one today, my heart goes out to you. ... This day is about you. And the fallen heroes that you loved."
